"One fabulous location, two great accommodation options"

                                                                                      © 2019 THE RIDGE

“Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”  - Henry James

The summer holidays are nearly upon us and it’s time to start planning your pre or post-Christmas country getaway.  The Ridge is great for large families, with heaps of room including three queen bedrooms, two twin bedrooms; large open plan kitchen / lounge / dining, separate family room and two large decks.

Or if it’s just two of you, our new Eco-Cabin is getting rave reviews from our guests.

The Ridge is located in a 40 hectare property which backs onto the iconic “The Bucketts”, Buccan Buccan Mountains, so there is plenty of space to walk and explore.  You can actually access the public Lions Club sponsored “Bucketts Walk” directly from The Ridge.                                               View from “The Bucketts” (photo by K Murphy).

Despite to the ongoing drought Gloucester is open for business.  We are considered a safe area from current bushfires.  So if you are thinking of visiting us over summer PLEASE come, relax and have a good time.

Yes, the valleys are not as green as it can be but all the National Parks ARE open - Barrington Tops, Gloucester Tops, Woko and many more.

The Pacific Highway is open from Sydney & Newcastle to The Bucketts Way turn-off which is also unaffected by fires and open all the way to Gloucester.

The Ridge house itself is located in the middle of a well grazed paddock (with little grass at the moment) and not really close to any large forested areas at risk of major fires.

We are also quite close to town (around 3 km) and have multiple all weather entry / exit options if necessary, so little risk of being isolated.

Needless to say that there is a total fire ban currently in place and that you will not be able to use The Ridge’s outdoor fire pit.

Alex Cudlin of Aussie Bike or Hike is running some “Hills and Country 1 Day Mountain Bike Tours” in the Barrington Tops over this coming summer.  Current dates are Sun 15th December and Sat 18th January with tours departing Gloucester at 7.30 am on these days.

The Ridge is a great place to stay while doing these rides.

Support for our Community

Our community is struggling a bit with the drought and we’d really appreciate if you came and stayed during the summer to give the local economy a bit of a boost by having a coffee or lunch in one of the cafés, buy some local meat for your BBQ from one of the two great local butchers, have dinner at one of the clubs or pubs and maybe do some adventure activities or play some golf, or tennis?

When you do come, please also bring some rain with you :-)

Guest Review – Rhiannon (Sept 2019)

“We had a wonderful weekend at the Eco-Cabin at the Ridge. It’s a beautiful space perfect for a couple looking for a relaxing weekend away!  Stunning views.  I highly recommend.”

Despite the drought The Barrington River is still running with cool clear mountain fed waters.  There are a number of easy to access swimming spots with shallow areas for kids.

Rocky Crossing is just such a spot (photo right).  Situated on Barrington West Road, it is approximately 15 kms from The Ridge.  Toilets are available in the adjacent picnic area.

On your way there, a big bonus is the scenic view of the Bucketts Mountains from the western side.  The best time for photos is after midday as the sun highlights the exposed cliff faces.

To get there, turn left from The Ridge’s entrance onto Thunderbolts Way and drive west, through Barrington village towards Scone and after crossing the Barrington River bridge turn left onto Barrington West Road and drive about 8km to reach Rocky Crossing.  For details on local swimming sites see the Gloucester Tourism Website.

After your busy day’s adventuring, wind down with a cool drink shared with loved ones, sitting at one of The Ridge’s many viewing spots relaxing and watching the sun setting behind the far off mountains as the sky changes colours and evening draws, then the stars begin to come out.

Summer school holidays is a busy time at The Ridge, so please consider booking early.  As our valued previous guests and enquirers, we’d like to make sure you don’t miss out on your preferred stay dates.
